Business To Business Franchises-5 Compelling Reasons To Own One

Thursday, July 23, 2009

Author: Cory Barber

Those who possess good selling skills, enjoy building meaningful and productive relationships, and the challenge of interacting with fellow business owners and managers, rather than consumers, will find some excellent opportunities worth investigating in the Business To Business franchise category.

There are B2B franchise businesses out there that cover the full spectrum in terms of variety, such as property damage and restoration, business cleaning and janitorial services, printing, management and training, consulting, direct marketing, and employment and personnel services, just to name a few. So, you’re open to several different options, whether you have background in a white collar or a blue collar industry. B2B franchises offer several advantages and nice benefits, 5 of which I would like to discuss.

Develop Stronger Business Relationships. Those who pride themselves in possessing excellent “people” skills are at a major advantage when dealing with like-minded business clients. Your success rate escalates by utilizing your natural ability to see your customers as real people, instead of treating them as just a profit source. If you come from the corporate world, you will transition nicely into a B2B operation because of your strong background and experience in dealing with professionals.

Home Based. If you enjoy the idea of conducting business from a home based office, rather than a traditional brick and mortar outlet, this is ideal. Most B2B’s are operated from a home office, calling potential clients to set up meetings at their place of business.

Limited And Controlled Business Hours. You’re doing the majority of your business during family friendly, “normal”, business hours. You enjoy a nice balance of work and family life. Compare that to a typical retail operation, like a convenience store, which could be open 18-24 hours a day, or a restaurant, which does the majority of its business on weekends.

Some Business to Business franchises feature guaranteed, immediate payment directly from insurance companies. Have you ever considered industries in which the franchise business is compensated directly from an insurance company? What about floods and fires that businesses experience? You are assured immediate payment by the insurance company to clean up the water damage or rebuild after a fire and these repairs are imminent. Property damage results in thousands of claims each year. It’s a huge industry that is a necessity business and truly recession resistant with high profit margins.

No Industry Experience Required. All of the product or service training you need is provided by the franchisor. The major assets you need to provide are the strong belief in the overall concept, and, of course, the intense desire to succeed.

Business to business franchises are becoming increasingly popular, not only as a result of the above benefits, but also because more businesses today are choosing to focus their energies on their core strengths. They are willing to outsource for the expertise of the service provider, making B2B a very lucrative franchise option.

7 Elements Of A Highly Successful Franchisee

Author: Cory Barber

If you are at a point in your career where you’re entertaining the possibility of buying a franchise, you need to understand the psychology that is behind a franchisor’s decision to award a franchise to the “right” person. There are certain, essential skills and personality traits that encompass a “model” franchisee, and before you go any further down the road to franchise ownership, you had better do a self-inventory and make absolute certain you have them.

Obviously, if you are considering a handyman or home improvement franchise and you’ve never used a hammer or a saw, this could be a serious problem. Or if you are looking at a certain business to business franchise, but you hate selling, you are all but guaranteeing misery. But those aren’t the king of skills that I’m referring to here.

Regardless of which specific franchise you are considering, you need to possess and exhibit some basic, key skills that will fuel the overall potential for success of your franchise business. Franchisors have spent plenty of time and money researching what the profile of the ideal franchisee looks like. Here are 7 mandatory traits:

Commitment to following a proven system. Franchise systems are in place because they work. It’s that simple. If you’re nickname is “Genius” because of your brilliant, super creative ideas that you come up with daily, then franchising is not for you. Go back and read the previous sentence again. It is imperative that you are passionate about the product or service and are completely committed to executing the company’s marketing plan. If not, consider starting your own business.

Excellent People Skills. You need to enjoy working well with others as a team. If you don’t like interacting with others, you’ll become stressed, your employees and customers will sense it, and ultimately your business will suffer. Instead, display the positive behavior that you want your employees to model when dealing with your customers. A happy, positive, “customer is always right” attitude must prevail at all times by you, your managers, and the employees.

Strong Work Ethic. A must for any potential franchisee. If you don’t possess strong, disciplined work habits and have burning desire, you might as well work for someone else and punch a time clock. Any successful franchisee will tell you that they work until the job is done. They don’t quit when the whistle blows. They’ll do anything it takes to get the job done. Having true passion to work for yourself will tend bring out this work ethic automatically.

Well-Capitalized. Obviously, franchising costs can be significant. Franchisors will not move forward with candidates that are under capitalized. You’re facing an initial investment, the franchise fee, and ongoing royalties due to the franchisor. Most small to medium sized franchises require a franchise fee of $5,000 up to $30,000. Royalties are usually a percentage of the income that your business generates, which you in turn pay the franchisor, typically ranging from 3%-7%. Don’t let these costs scare you, though. In return, you are receiving the use of the “brand”, which is significant in that you’ll attract customers immediately. Many franchisors offer assistance with financing. Also, you’ll tap into the volume discounts on product purchases you’re entitled to as a result of being a franchisee.

Willingness To Ask Questions. Asking great questions is a true sign of strength. A successful franchisee will ask the franchisor’s support team or another franchisee for advice when he/she is stuck or unclear. You must be coachable and be prepared to implement the advice you receive.

Risk Averse. While it’s true that there is no guarantee that you will be a successful franchisee and there is some risk involved, your chances of failing are substantially reduced with a franchise, as opposed to starting your own business from scratch. Statistically speaking, U.S. Department of Commerce states that franchise businesses are exponentially more likely to succeed than individual new start-ups.

Finally, research, research, research. And seek out assistance. It’s virtually impossible to conduct a thorough franchise search alone. A seasoned franchise consultant can arm you with the knowledge you need to make an educated decision on the business that is the closest fit to your specific requirements.

Franchising is a great business model if you have the necessary skills and mindset to follow a winning formula. If you truly possess the characteristics spelled out above, chances are you have a solid foundation for success as a franchisee.

PRINCE2 Training: Myths & Misconceptions

Myth 1: PRINCE is an acronym for Projects in Non Commercial Environments

PRINCE2 began life in the public sector and, as a result, many people perceive PRINCE as not being relevant to the private sector; or at best only to organisations providing services.

In fact, PRINCE stands for ‘Projects In Controlled Environments’. Crucially, its purpose is to provide a structured project management method which can be applied to any project situation. This can then be scaled to suit projects ranging from office relocation to the building of a nuclear power plant.

Myth 2: Only project managers looking for a job study PRINCE2

Because an increasing number of job advertisements specify the need for candidates to have successfully completed PRINCE2 training, a culture of cynicism has been directed towards the scheme.

My own experience is that the primary driver for people to embark on PRINCE2 training is their existing employer. Very often they have concluded that delivery of project benefits is inadequate so training is provided to enable employees to learn a more rigorous, and beneficial, approach to project management.

As PRINCE is taken up by more organisations, a secondary result is that employers find it more efficient and convenient to recruit managers who are already PRINCE trained.

Myth 3: PRINCE2 training marks you out as a competent project manager

• The PRINCE2 Foundation qualification marks you out as someone who has invested time in understanding the structure and terminology of a PRINCE2 project. You will be able to act as an informed member of a PRINCE2 project team.

• The PRINCE2 Practitioner qualification marks you out as someone able to apply the principles of PRINCE2 to practical real life scenarios.

Training for these qualifications alone does not make you a competent project manager.

In theory, the PRINCE2 training could be successfully completed by a student with zero project experience. However, it’s the combination of theoretical understanding and years of practical experience across a range of projects that truly signifies a competent project manager.

Myth 4: PRINCE2 training involves a three day Foundation course and a two day Practitioner course

The majority of people studying PRINCE2 undergo training in this format but it is not the only way.

The PRINCE2 Foundation exam is normally taken on the final day of a three day instructor led training course.

The PRINCE2 Practitioner exam is normally taken after a further two or three days training. In many cases, the training takes place over five consecutive days with the Foundation exam on the Wednesday, and the Practitioner exam on the Friday.

A number of accredited training organisations now offer instructor led training in alternative formats to suit differing learning styles and diary commitments. These include:

Four plus One - Foundation training for three days - An initial Practitioner training day - Final Practitioner training day and exam held one week later giving time for additional self study

Weekend - Foundation training of three days from Friday to Sunday - Practitioner training and exam undertaken over the following weekend (Saturday and Sunday)

It is also possible to take the exams at independent examination centres following self study of the PRINCE2 manuals, or having studied an accredited distance based learning pack.

Myth 5: The new multiple choice exam is dumbing down the value of PRINCE2 training

In September 2007, a new format for the PRINCE2 Practitioner exam was introduced to replace the former essay based exam.

Although the new exam follows a multiple choice format, it is undeniably thorough in its range of questions. It still lasts three hours, and still tests a student’s understanding of how to apply PRINCE2 principles to real life scenarios. However, it is no longer possible to refer to any material other than the PRINCE2 manual during the exam. Find Prince2 Training Courses at Focus on Training

MLM/Network Marketing Company Check

When it comes to choosing a network marketing company, there are just too many to choose from. There are about 50,000 network marketing companies in existence today. New companies open up each day. With the coming of the internet, network marketing industry changed forever. Anybody could literally start a network marketing company from their home.

Internet has made it so much easier to start an online business, and network marketing business is not an exception. However, that also caused some problems. There are many people who don’t know anything about business, but with the power of the internet, are able to start a new work-at-home scheme and collect large paychecks.

The concept of network marketing is very powerful in promoting a product. It’s a fact that businesses grow much, MUCH faster, when using the multi-level marketing approach, rather than using traditional methods. With the power of the word-of-mouth and the power of the network, these companies can reach the $1 billion mark in revenue in only a few years.

However, not many MLM companies do. Almost all network marketing companies go out of business within their first year of existence.

Traditionally, starting an MLM business meant working for 2-5 years and then retiring with a yearly income of $1 million dollars. But if the company you partner up with goes out of business in a few months, all your efforts go down the drain, and that’s not fun.

So, how do you choose a company that will get you there, and not go bankrupt on you? Here are some pointers.

Learn about the company founders. Network marketing is a business, and needs people who are knowledgeable in the area of business to run it. Research how much experience in the business world the founders of a company have. A lot of MLM companies are started by former distributors who got tired of working for another MLM company. But just having a little bit of experience as a distributor, doesn’t mean you’ll be able to run a full blown business.

Training. Does the company have a good training system, that will enrich you as an individual, or is it simply using you to sell their products? A lot of times, even if you fail in network marketing, the knowledge you get from the training is well worth the investment of your time and money. Does the company have regular training webinars? Some good companies will have webinars almost every day. Does it provide you with the tools necessary to succeed? Can it teach you how to sell?

The product. Does the company offer good products? Ask yourself, if this product could be sold retail, instead of through network marketing, would I be able to sell it? The most successful companies have products that change people’s lives. A good point to consider is whether it is better when a company has a catalogue of products or just one product. It seems like the more products you have, the more revenue you get, right? Not really. Did you know that Redbull has only one product? Yet it’s the number one selling energy drink. That is because they can concentrate all of their advertising efforts on just one product and be the best at it. So when you go out and try to convince people to join your company, it’s much easier when you have only one good product, rather than trying to make a two-hour presentation on all the products your company offers.

Time in operation. While it may be tempting to jump from one hot new thing to another, to gain the top position in the company, it usually is not a good idea. Keep in mind that most companies don’t survive even their first year in business. Some people just jump from one thing to another, and never make any money, because their new company that promised so much, ended up going bankrupt in several months. You want to choose a company that has proven stability. Find out if the company at least paid off their start-up loans. Having debt is such a shaky ground to run a business. However, joining a company that has been around for 50 years may not be a very wise choice either. People who joined decades ago made a smart move, but new people might end up at the bottom of the ladder for a long time. If a company has been around for too long, chances are people have heard about it and tried its products, and there aren’t very many potential customers left for your share. So choose a company that is not brand new, but that also has a potential for future growth.

Which class of mobile phones do you really need?

Tuesday, July 14, 2009

There was a time when people mostly wanted and needed only basic mobile phones, with the possibilities to talk, send and receive SMSs, and perhaps a speakerphone. Colour screens and polyphonic ring tones were what the upper class had to offer, and at the very peak of mobile phone technology were models which had some low resolution cameras, or even mobile Internet access. Today, all of these characteristics are to be found in most entry level mobile phones, except for the camera. So, the question really is, what do you need from all the features offered today in the mobile phone market, and which class of phones should you go for?

Truth is, having a mobile with a colour screen and Internet access is sufficient for most people, they can put in their colour background, phone and send SMS, download new ring tones. What can't they do? The one feature separating the entry level from the middle class of mobile phones is MMS capabilities. And it will be frustrating that sometimes someone sends you a picture of the important thing they are doing, and you can't receive it. Of course, there is the round trip of scaling it down and posting it to a WAP Internet site for interchanging pictures for you to see it, but it is too much trouble for the person to do, and then for you also. Also, having a camera always handy is a great possibility. And what about playing music and recording videos? For that, the higher segment of the mobile market is reserved. Playing mp3's is something even some entry level phones do, but only those which are more expensive have enough memory space to carry your music around. Mid level phones, without possibilities to expand their memory capacity, usually have enough space just for one song, which can be sufficient if all you want to do is just play that one song to your friend. You rarely have the need of playing more songs to people, and having the possibility of playing Java j2me games on the mid class mobile is another vote in favour of it. For those having separate cameras and mp3 players in their possession, or having no need for them, getting anything above a mid class phone is a waste of money. And when you calculate how much those service provider deals cost, you may find that it is better to buy cheap mobile phones and go prepaid, than having Vodafone, O2, Orange or any of the rest own you for a year or two.

Mobile Phones - Mobile Phone Books

All the rage in Japan though yet to take off in the UK is books published directly to your mobile phone. They are called, surprisingly enough, Mobile Phone Novels. Each chapter is an individual text message. It started in 2003 with a somewhat risqué novel called Deep Love. We won't go into any of the details here, but it went like a storm in Japan and nearly three million copies were sold to mobiles. It was a great example of viral marketing as it spread like wildfire through social groups and networks.

Authors can distribute the books chapter by chapter as they write it. The readers can even participate in determining the direction of the plot by sending messages to the author, who may or may not bow to popular demand. Alternatively there are currently hundreds of books available for purchase.

Testimony to the growing popularity of mobile phone novels is the fact that in 2008 they made up half of the ten best selling novels in Japan.

Although they are very popular, they mainly tend to be lacking in literary merit and have been severely criticised by more traditional authors and critics. However there are others who believe the phenomenon to be a great movement forward in encouraging creativity. Many people who have never before written anything creative are now churning out popular novels.

Many of the authors achieve cult status, and can achieve massive circulations and kudos though not necessarily a great deal of money.

It is probably unlikely that this will become big in the UK. The Japanese youth culture is heavily into Manga and other comic books featuring mainly adventure, romance, fantasy and adult themes. The mobile phone novels lean heavily on this culture, and build on similar themes. It is an interesting phenomenon but probably not for us, not yet anyway.

--
The growth of the mobile phone industry has given rise to a host of online mobile phone shops - leaving the consumer inundated with prices, ranges and information on new releases, may phone shops now offer insentives such as Free Nintendo Wii etc

brighter days ahead for the oil and gas sector

Despite a turbulent period for world economies, investment experts believe that there are green shoots of optimism starting to poke through, particularly in the oil and gas sector. Thanks to a surge in prices for crude oil, the industry is starting to feel that, if not yet completely out of the darkest days of the recession, then at least things are a little more stable than six months ago. Companies that have been warning of extensive job cuts in drilling jobs, oil rig jobs and other oil careers are now more optimistic that these jobs are a little more secure than they were before.

A 49% increase in Kern oil prices over the last two months appears to have stabilized local oil-related employment, despite worries that the higher prices could negatively effect the rest of the economy. Some producers may be more cautious in their approach and, while not currently actively hiring rig crews, are not as quick to cut jobs as they were some months ago. They are, however, still waiting to see if the prices stabilize or increase further before they invest in upgrades. If oil prices stay above US$50-60/barrel then the industry as a whole could see a new surge in activity and start actively hiring drilling and maintenance teams.

This isn't a new dawn (not yet, anyway) for the oil industry and there is still a great deal of financial uncertainty within the industry. The hardest hit countries such as the USA, the UK, Japan and the Euro-Zone are still taking it one day at a time, with figures showing the economies of these countries in a ‘holding pattern' of almost zero growth over the last quarter. But the oil industry is still seen as one of the best investment areas and predictions are that with a wealth of new projects coming online this year and production of oil and gas on the up, the industry could be one of the first to push itself out of recession and back into positive growth into 2010.

Equity experts are predicting that certain sectors are still looking bullish because of ample liquidity and cite the oil and gas industry as one of the best bets for investment potential. The knock-on effect of this is potentially a surge in the fortunes of heavy industry and steel manufacture as these sectors ride the benefit of increased investment in oil and gas exploration. Analysts are also positive about the oil and gas industry because they believe that oil prices will stabilize at around the US$60/barrel mark, which is enough to boost the industry back into positive growth as it is higher than estimated costs for both shallow and deep water production (estimated at US$20 and US$40-50/barrel respectively). Consequently, as long as the investment continues into the business, analysts predict that new jobs should follow, benefiting local supporting companies in particular in terms of order-book replenishment and sustained charter rates.

This positive approach is a universal phenomenon, with oil and gas companies all over the world reporting new exploration proposals, increased activity in existing fields and the growth of satellite companies that supply the industry consolidating and even increasing employment numbers. Jobs in oil and gas are looking to be more of a growth market and those with experience and the right qualifications can feel a little more secure in their careers. As long as that price stays over the US$60 mark, the world oil and gas industries will be in a better position to lead other industries out of the recession at a rate that will ensure we do not encounter another boom/bust situation further down the line.

Plumbing Training Sets You Up for a Career

Plumbing is a great career choice and if you have any desire to own your own company it is a perfect choice. Plumbing is an age old and very worthwhile trade that is always in demand, pays well and frequently allows you to have your business. If you prefer the idea of working for an established company, large or small, there are plenty of opportunities there as well.

How Do I Become A Plumber?

To become a plumber you need to take plumbing training. Plumber courses will provide the academic or theory side of the career while the required on the job training (OJT) ensures you apply what you have learned. The OJT requirements to become a fully licensed plumber vary depending on your location, your local code enforcement agency can tell you what the specifics are. In many cases you need to practice your plumbing under the direct supervision of a licensed plumber for three years before yo can become licensed yourself.

Plumbing Training At A Trade School

Plumbing training courses are available through a wide variety of sources and depending on your personal situation and preferences you will find one avenue more to your liking than the others. One avenue for plumbing courses is to attend a trade school. Trade schools will get on track quickly and make it so that you can practice your trade as soon as possible. Plumbing trade schools can be found via the Internet or your phone book. Another good way is to check with local plumbers and see what school or schools they recommend. Since you will likely hire on with one of the plumbers it is a good idea to know what schools they think highly of.

Plumbing Training is Important For Safety Reasons

Plumbing training courses are very important because the field of plumbing has a direct impact to health and safety on everyone. Plumbers directly impact how clean drinking water is brought to the home or residence and how sewage is carried away from the home or business. These aspects make it vital that a plumber understand how to do their job and do it in a safe and efficient manner.

Employers Seek Plumbers from Trade Schools

Employers know that trade schools are a great source of potential employees. So you get the added benefit of employers seek potential employees from trade schools. They know that the potential employee has been taught formally, they know what was taught and they have a better idea of what level of skill the employee will be working at once they have finished their plumbing training.

Plumbing is a very sound profession to choose as plumbers are always in demand regardless of how the economy is doing. Repair of existing plumbing works is never something that is put off. When a pipe bursts people want it fixed right away. When a drain backs up people want that fixed right away. Any new construction requires the use of a plumber. The addition to existing construction requires the use of a plumber. Plumbing is a very stable field that offers job security and a decent wage and does not require years of college for those that do not wish to go to college.

Hairdressing marketing business requires many different types of equipment to ensure the business

Basic Hairdressing marketing business consists of styling chairs, shampoo chairs, washbasins, hair dryers, mirrors, and trolley carts. These pieces of equipment are available in a large variety of styles. Many salons opt to purchase basic, inexpensive, equipment that is simply functional. Other salons choose to purchase equipment that works toward creating a certain feel or ambiance in their salon. There are many retailers that specialize solely in “high end” designer hair salon equipment.

Day spa services may include manicures, pedicures, tanning, facials, waxing, and massages. When these types of services are offered there is specific hair salon equipment that must be added to the salon’s equipment inventory. Many of the items are pieces of equipment that are quite costly and helps salon owners how to run a hair salon. For example, a new pedicure station can cost a few thousand dollars, prompting some salon owners to purchase used hair salon equipment to save money.

When salons expand the services they offer they often choose to sell hair care, skin, and body products. To appropriately display the items they must purchase display racks. The type of display racks they choose will depend on the size of the inventory that will be displayed and how much square footage they have to dedicate to the display. Hair salon equipment retailers typically offer a large selection of display tables, racks, and shelving for sale.

There are a growing number of retailers that specialize in selling used hair salon equipment. Many of these retailers are easily found online through search engines. Much of the used equipment that is offered is in very good condition and is a good investment for a salon owner. Used hair salon equipment is a wise choice, particularly for a new salon owner who is just starting out.

This business lives or dies by the quality of people who work in the salon and the national chains have very little advantage over somebody who wants to know how to run a hair salon by themselves. The reason for this is that the cost of the actual products used in the beauty treatments is minimal and therefore they do not benefit greatly from their buying power.

The main cost of running a beauty salon includes rent, rates and labour and therefore you can compete with the big boys on an equal footing.

There are many different types of course one can attend to learn about the beauty trade and some are very good. Without learning some new skills and educating yourself prior to opening you might as well not bother. It probably is a good idea to work in a busy salon first so that you learn the ropes before starting your own.

A hairdressing marketing business will need a diary system for booking in clients and somewhere handy for them to sit whilst waiting for their treatment. The waiting area also has to well fit out and stocked with the latest fashion and women's magazines.

Marketing a beauty salon if you have chosen the right location is very simple.

It is not really a mandatory requirement for you to master hair dressing make up and other beauty skills but it does pay to know a little about the tricks of the trade. You can opt to run your beauty salon business with a partner but ideally, you should learn how to boost your hair dressing as well as makeup skills and let your expertise create more exciting opportunities for your salon.

There are many full time and part time beauty courses for aspiring salon owners. You should shop around before making your final decision. It’s best to choose a course with a flexible study schedule so that you will be free to determine if you should attend daily or at least twice weekly.

A good salon is incomplete without comfortable styling chairs for your customers to sit on. You can choose to furnish your salon with contemporary salon furniture to give it a vogue edge or you can even stick to a classy interior complemented by timeless salon furniture. And let’s not forget to add a nicely designed reception desk that will impress customers the minute they step into your establishment.

Your typical hairdresser is confident and outgoing; essential qualities for building up a client base or going to ask your bank manager for a loan, and hairdressers are great at multi-tasking; a bonus when you have to be receptionist, accountant, promoter and sales person all rolled into one!

salon marketing is very important because it promotes your business and drives clients in. Your beauty hair salon marketing strategy should really include a wide variety of ads and use different types of media.

Why Buying a Franchise is a Good Route to a Successful Business

Author: Nazir Daud

Buying a Franchise is a good way to start your first small business, although it all depends on the franchise. Some can be work from home ideas and ideal for people that have been the victims of the current worldwide economic situation. If you have recently been made redundant, and have had a reasonable redundancy settlement, then you might be well advised to invest that in a decent franchise.

The reason is that a well-chosen franchise can provide you with a good income for the rest of your life. Here are some other benefits:

1. You will no longer be relying upon unemployment benefit or social security for an income as your redundancy payment slowly gets frittered away.

2. You will have a purpose in life - there is nothing worse than a healthy person having no work and lounging around the house all day. You could do charity work, but that is no substitute for somebody who has earned and paid for their own living expenses throughout their working life.

3. If you are reaching retirement age, you need not retire if you don't want to. Many people are still young and healthy at retirement age, male or female, and regret having nothing to do when they do eventually retire!

4. You will have a business to pass on to your family if you have one. A franchise can be passed from father to son; mother to daughter. Sometimes your partner can carry the business on after you have gone. It's not something people like to discuss, but it is important that your nearest and dearest are able to maintain an income should the worst happen.

These are all compelling reasons for making the effort to start your own small business. However, why a franchise as opposed to any other kind of business? There are a number of reasons for that, including:

A. You do not have the problem of finding a product to sell or a service to provide.

B. Most franchises have a ready-made product that is already branded and known to the public. There should be no need for you to bust a gut to get your business name known.

C. Many franchises offer local or even national advertising; you will generally have to pay a share of the cost, but the thing is you don't bear the whole advertising cost yourself as you would have to do if you started your own independent business. The cost is shared by everyone in the same franchise network.

D. Training is provided. You are not just left to get on with it, as you would have to if you started up a regular business. Even after training ends, you still have people to advice you as you start running your business.

There are some aspects of franchising, however, that you must be aware of before committing yourself. Among these is the contract and the details of who pays for what, and what your own expenses will be. What exactly is your share of advertising costs, for example? What protection do you have over price increases in your raw materials in the future, and what independence do you have in sourcing raw materials?

Are the product prices set in stone? Can you reduce your prices if you are trading in a poorer area and what special offers are you enabled to apply? These and many other questions have to be answered before you sign the dotted line.

However, once you have an agreement, a franchise can be a gold mine if you are permitted to use your own business skills and acumen, and advertise locally in your own way, both online and offline. Are you permitted to have your own website, and what marketing freedom do you have?

Make sure before you sign any agreement that the terms and conditions are fair and acceptable to you. Most will be fair but be careful of new franchises that have appeared in the current recession in an attempt to fleece you of your hard-earned redundancy money.

There are many established franchises that will treat you fairly and offer you a great opportunity to run your own successful business.

Look Into a Franchise If You Are Serious About Business

Author: Kimberly Green

One in three businesses fails within the first year. However, that statistic drastically drops when you enter into the equation a franchise business. Why is this? Well, it’s simple. When you purchase a franchise you aren’t just purchasing a name (which in its own right has power) but you are purchasing a strong business plan and in many cases, the support structure to help you succeed.

Many first time business owners have ventured into business with the McDonald’s corporation. McDonalds happens to be the largest land owner in the world and they have a unique distinction of being the biggest landlord in the world as well. See, McDonalds will sell you a franchise and then assist you with the best location. In doing so, they can ensure you remain competitive and that they don’t over saturate a given market place. This system has worked well as McDonalds is one of the largest companies in the world and boasts the largest buying power. Another great point about McDonalds is Hamburger U. A school designed not only for McDonald’s managers but for current and future franchise owners. They believe in taking that extra step to ensure their owners are up to speed and ready to be successful. In fact, it’s not uncommon to see a franchise owner invested in several regional locations. That’s a true sign of a successful franchise owner.

Another successful franchise is one in which you have a personal investment. Fast food can be rewarding but few people have a built in love and passion for the work that is being done. So, for those people, finding something that hits close to home and being able to do it for a living is the most rewarding and successful venture of all. For example, many people have found that investing in a childrens franchise (or a franchise relating to children’s needs) is a greatly rewarding and successful venture. To add to this example, a franchise like Snip-its can be rewarding as well as successful because they are the industry leader in child’s hair cutting. As with most franchise companies, you’ll find a wealth of support to help you begin the process of starting your business. This is a great example of a well thought out business plan that doesn’t require you to be an expert in hair cutting but does allow you to effectively run the business and to see a profit.

When asked, would you rather go into business alone or would you rather have an established name brand supporting you along with a structured business plan and support team the answer really seems easy to answer. That’s because it is! Nothing in business is a sure fire success and all businesses take strict dedication to ensure success but ultimately a franchise is a great way to ensure success. Whether it’s a McDonalds or a children’s franchise you’ll find that taking the route more traveled in this case will prove to be a bigger success.

Survive the Recession: Focus on the People and Not the Product

A certain point in American economy, there was this general feeling of elation as most businesses rode in a wave of unabated growth. Today, threatened with being outdated because of the recession, every major industry are very much in a state of decline.

The United States-based National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) defines economic recession as: "a significant decline in [the] economic activity spread across the country, lasting more than a few months, normally visible in real GDP growth, real personal income, employment (non-farm payrolls), industrial production, and wholesale-retail sales." We are told of stories about factories shutting down, companies downsizing, personal income shrinking and the worst is, there are no immediate signs of recovery.

Take the example of the ubiquitous corner stores that once was a thriving industry. The big grocery chains as well as smaller independent chains are experiencing low client turn-out. Despite aggressive marketing campaign made obvious by the volume of orders from custom flyer printing companies, people are just not buying or if they are, they lean towards the most essential household items such as food. Because of this phenomenon, sales fell dramatically and inventories piled up in stockrooms. Unable to sustain its profit margin, these groceries looked for ways to cut its losses. Retrenchment is always an easy option. As workers are laid off, unemployment rose to levels that would affect consumer spending. The vicious cycle of recession begins.

The ultimate question now is how business would survive in these difficult times?

First, business owners must assess their customer's ability to resist recession. In other words, owners must be able to monitor and analyze their client's spending patterns. This would give an indication of how much the recession is perceived by the public.

Based on this assessment, business owners can then proceed to the second step, which is to redesign customer offerings. These offerings in your custom flyer printing for example must be able to encourage customers to spend amidst the difficult times.

Along with the redesigned customer offering is the next move, which is to redesign marketing collaterals like printing flyers, brochures, catalogs. These custom flyer printing collaterals for one must be persuasive enough to stimulate consumer purchases even on items which are less likely to be bought during these times like non essential items.

In other words, companies must be able to refocus their efforts to create artificial demand to stimulate spending. Companies can do this by refocusing and looking at the people who consume it rather than be oriented on the product itself. The main point here is that people buy the product and not the other way around.

Make Your Clients Open Your Direct Mail

There’s more to designing your direct mail pieces to get your target clients to open them. More than a great layout, funky images, and compelling content, your direct mail collaterals should be so effective and attractive that your print envelopes are opened right away.

We have to admit that many of us open our mail near a garbage can or any other receptacle where you can easily dispose of junk in your mail. And as seasoned consumers, we have been trained to spot the junk from the relevant pieces. In fact, we can smell typical marketing rubbish a mile away.

So how do you convince your readers to open your envelope printing, read what’s inside, and act on your direct mail? A few simple steps can guarantee to get you in the door and stay inside it – enough for your target clients to take you up on your offer:

First, you got to convince them with your envelope printing. Your print envelopes are the very first things that your prospects will see in your direct mail campaign. Your envelopes are on a league of their own that’s why having them are the most crucial part of your marketing campaign. Your main objective then for your envelope printing should be to not only put your direct mail campaign out there, but to actually have them in front of your target clients. When you do, not only do you give yourself an opportunity for your offer to be read, but you also open the door for a follow up.

The next steps will help convince your target clients to make a purchasing decision that is favorable on your part –

Selling through your direct mail. As you qualify your target clients for your direct mail, your collaterals need to have a follow through in order to have clients for your business. Your message is not enough to get you in the minds of your prospects. You need to follow up on them so you can make sure that you get their attention and make it stick.

The right message to the right people. You just need to get your message to the right people. Without targeting your prospects, you only waste your time promoting to as many people with the hopes that you catch a few of them. A targeted list is the most important part in your direct mail. To be successful, you need to target the recipients of your direct mail campaign.

Keep it as simple as possible. As always, you need to keep it simple and direct so your target readers can get to the meaty part – your message. With a great list and a compelling message, you’re on your way to getting your foot in the door.

Try hand-addressed and stamped envelopes. For a more professional image, use the standard #10 print envelopes, in white color, with a typed address and postage. To ensure that your clients get it back to you, have a return address as well in your envelope printing. A post-paid envelope with a reply card stresses the action you would want your prospects to do after reading your message.

Develop a solid tracking system. Make sure you know that your target clients have your direct mail. Provide yourself a tracking system that can tell you how your collaterals fared in the field.

These tricks are simple enough for you to do. Yet they are effective direct mail tactics that gets your pieces considered and opened that often.

Psychology Of Paid Online Surveys

Friday, July 10, 2009

Author: Alan Lim

Research shows that the number of companies that seek the opinions of the public in all age groups is a whooping seven million. So how do these millions of companies get their opinions? Through paid online surveys, of course. Surveys like these are becoming increasingly popular as more as more people are beginning to take them in order to make that extra money. How many of these people are actually be able to give you the psychology behind how and why these surveys work the way they do? Here is a condensed insight:

Companies need your opinion

The most important factor for you to understand is that companies need your opinion and are willing to pay, sometimes handsomely, for it. This need gets translated into paid online surveys that are available for all those who qualify to participate in. You must understand that you have a responsibility to provide an honest and accurate opinion as the survey that you take will probably decide how a new product is created or an existing one is modified.

What is the process?

The typical process of paid online surveys is as follows. You register with a company or a website that deals with online surveys. Once you have registered, you will be required to update certain information on your profile. This information needs to be filled in as accurately as you possibly can as it will be used as a filter to decide on whether or not you qualify for surveys that come up. It is also advisable that you keep these profile updated constantly so that you do not miss out any potential surveys that could come your way. You can get paid between five to seventy five dollars to complete a survey. However if you join a focus discussion group, you can even earn up to two hundred and fifty dollars an hour.

The pitfalls

There are bound to be pitfalls no matter what field you are in and paid online surveys is no exception to that rule. It is very easy for potential candidate to mistake a fraudulent website for one that is genuine. Only once you have actually joined will you find that the website has links that do not work, old resources, no refunds and even no customer service. Avoiding hindrances like these requires some amount of research and study.

Getting paid

The main objective of paid online surveys is to get paid. If you latch onto a website that is genuine, this should not be a problem at all. All genuine websites are easy to use and have excellent customer care support. These websites also have plenty of resources available to newcomers so that they can get started with ease. Directories are updated on a weekly basis to keep them on top of things. You will also find that most of these sites do not require eligibility. Some of these start sending you surveys as soon as you join. Although this does happen, do not expect that it will happen. It usually takes a short while for surveys to start coming in.

Learning How To Print Online In 7 Steps

Author: Lynne Saarte

It is easy to print online. You just need to know the right steps in preparing for and dealing with the printing company. Do not worry it is not that complicated. In this tutorial, I will teach you the simple procedures on how to print online. Just try to follow the six steps below and you will learn how to print with an online printing company.
1. Prepare your file for printing
The initial thing that you must remember is that you have to prepare your file for printing. You cannot just send any kind of file format that you feel like giving. There are many consequences like design deteriorations and file errors if online printers try to convert your file into something that they can use. It is best to adapt your designs early to useful and more widely used file formats so that it can easily be sent to online printers. So make sure that you use widely accepted file formats like JPG, PNG and if possible, document formats like ODG and PSD.

2. Search for an online printing company
Once you have your files in good file formats, you will then need to look for the online printing company. In choosing an online printing company you need to judge them by quality, ability and price. They must print materials always in good quality with good paper and inks. Also, they must have extensive abilities that add in extra features to prints like folds, paper coatings, hole cutting etc. Lastly, the price of course must be right and must not be too expensive.

3. Pick your various printing details
When you decide on the printing company, you will then need to decide as well on the various printing details for your prints. This may vary widely depending on your printed material but these includes the abilities stated above like folding, hole cutting etc. Make sure that you specify these options as you place your printing order.

4. Set a target date for delivery
With all the details already decided, you should then specify the date for delivery. Other online printers might offer overnight delivery for an extra fee, but more or less, you can set a target date for delivery at around to 5 days after your order.

5. Send your designs
Finally with all the details set, just send or upload your designs to the online printer. They may provide an email address or an upload form for this.

6. Pay for the transaction
Afterwards, you should of course be lead to the payment process. Typically you can just simply use your credit cards to pay for the prints electronically. Just provide your billing details.

7. Wait for the arrival of prints
With the payment finished, you should more or less be done as well. You just need to wait or the arrival of the prints via delivery. You do not need to go all the way to the printing house. You can just comfortably wait for them at your house.

So those are the seven easy steps in online printing. Hopefully you have learned something useful today and you can apply it effectively for the future.

How Doubters and Overly Suspicious Entrepreneurs Can Find the Perfect Business

Author: Zack Miller

Some people have the hardest time when it comes down to analyzing an online business opportunity. It doesn't matter whether it's an online business opportunity or a business offline. They have a tendency to struggle with understanding the difference between solid due diligence and being paranoid. Paranoia is nothing more then having excessive or irrational suspicions and distrust-in the motives of others.

This is not a business skill you want to use for researching business opportunities. However doing due diligence is a great skill if done right. Due Diligence is a process of, analytically, logically, and comprehensively judging an online business opportunity. This is where the problem starts most people don't know how to properly do their due diligence effectively.

Now rightfully so, it's okay to be a little suspicious. However, passing on an opportunity because it's on the internet and sounds too good to be real, is just ridiculous. To be honest, there are more and more people turning to the internet. They are looking for help due to high unemployment, drop in the stock market and lousy housing market. Since an internet business is 100% recession proof. This is why there is an increase in the number of people getting involved in online businesses and finding great success, it's not uncommon for an internet business owner to generate $5,000, $10,000 or even more-a week online.

Learning how to regulate effective online research is a skill that will help any potential online entrepreneur. Most of what is seen in videos on the web, particularly income proofs or live events with lots of people, is real. Furthermore, many of the people making income claims would welcome the opportunity to speak with you. Call them up, talk them, and see what your 'gut instincts' tell you.

Effective due diligence should include using every resource possible to determine how legit the online opportunity is. Potential entrepreneurs will want the resources to be credible and non-biased sites, such as The Better Business Bureau, Federal Trade Commission., and Consumer Reports. If there isn't any dirt on the business opportunity after searching, it's probably legit. Should this take a long time? The answer is yes, it should require some time and effort to do a through job of research. After finishing the through examination, the potential entrepreneur will have a solid sense if the company has true legitimacy or not. Then the decision will not be based on any random assumptions.

Not to mention, many types of online business opportunities, particularly MLM companies, are required to make their "income disclosure statements" public. An income disclosure statement detail how much money everyone in the company is really making, not just the top income earners. Make sure to always check the corporate websites for this report. It is a very revealing report and will cut through a lot of the smoke and mirrors.

Use Affiliate Marketing To Get Traffic To Your Site

Author: Terry Wygal
Somebody has already told you about it. They said they have tried it and the just love the results they are getting. They just wait and other people make the effort of making prospect clients visit your site and even patronize your products. And they say they are using affiliate marketing.

Affiliate marketing opens a new frontier for on line businesses. It does not just get more traffic to your website, but it could also widen your market. You might be doing business with somebody who does not speak your language, live in another part of the world, but got really interested with the product you are advertising.

What affiliate marketing does is it makes use of a middle man or company to do the traffic generation for you. You as the main business hire people or use products to get visits from would-be clients and make these would-be-clients purchase something from you. In this case, you do not pay your affiliates if you do not get the clicks you intend to get or the number of purchase that you want to have. This way you make sure that you are investing on something that surely generates income because you need to see results first before you make the pay. Thus, if you do not get any visits or sells, don\'t worry. You won\'t lose money.

But jut like any other means and strategies to get traffic, you have some things that you need to consider. The first one is that you need to put your audience at the center. You should what and how they think and make use of this knowledge to fashion your strategy in affiliate marketing. Since you are the one who owns the business, you can tell anybody you intend to hire to be an affiliate about psyche of the usual clients you have. They can use this to help them come up with what kind of approach they are going to use to make these viewers convert to visitors, and much more, buying customers. Another thing that you need to consider is your own patience. How long can you wait for the results to happen? Please bear in mind to adjust the length of your patience to the kind of product you are selling, the clientèle that you have and the nature of your business. One thing to put you mind at peace is this one fact: yes, time is of the essence, but rememberer, no results, no pay so you are not wasting money. The next thing that you need to make sure with your affiliates is that they should incorporate honest-to-goodness techniques. Techniques that would not make the customers feel that they have been cheated. A customer who thinks that he or she was lured into some kind of fraudulent trap is not a happy customer and word-of-mouth spreads so fast. So, make sure you will not experience this kind of problem. Be very serious with this issue with your affiliates.

There are of course a lot of strategies that you can use and recommend to your affiliates. One of which, and is very effective is seen in Web Traffic BluePrint Training Videos. However, no matter how many tricks you have and how many affiliates you use, your attitude will always affect the outcome of your venture, so stay positive and have a clear conscience when doing business, whether on line or not.About the Author:

How to Choose the Right Dog Trainer for Your Behavior Problem

Author: Niki Tudge

The first approach, known as the medical model, tends to treat behaviors like an illness or disease. The medical model requires that problems be categorized so that a standard set of treatment protocols can be applied. The medical model does not address the probable cause of the behavior nor does it look at any other, possibly related, specifics that may be associated with an animal’s behavior. For example, if a dog is demonstrating unusual irritability, fear or increased excitability at the sound of a siren, the medical model may require a prescription pill that is designed to calm the dog. Neither the model nor the treatment addresses the potential cause(s) of the observed behaviors such as an early life trauma or a poor or unbalanced diet.

The second approach can be called the Behavior Analytical approach. Unlike the medical model the behavior analytical approach to assessing problem behaviors recognizes that behavior is a product of the environment and the individual animal's history. This approach is aimed at correcting the underlying cause of the problem behavior by focusing on the details of the specific behavior. The behavior approach is not necessarily concerned with how the behavior evolved or what processes drive the behavior. From our previous example, if a dog cowers at the sound of a siren, the behavior approach does not try to uncover the original cause of the fear of the siren but would simply recognize the connection between the sound of the siren and the dog’s fearful behavior and develop a counter conditioning and desensitization plan so the dog no longer feared the sound of the siren and responded in an unhealthy manner. .

The behavioral approach to problem behavior is far more effective and efficient altering a behavior than the medical model method because it does not rely on guess work, or trial and error but systematically identifies the relationship between a behavior and the environment and then sets to work on developing a behavior change program.

If you are contemplating hiring a dog trainer you need to determine which method they will be using so that you may protect the well-being of your dog and be assured of an effective treatment plan. Simply ask the prospective trainer to describe the process they will go through to assess your dog’s behavioral problem and what framework they will use to alter the behavior. Based on their answer you will then be able to determine what is best for your pooch.

Add Style and Comfort to your Veterinary Office

Author: Rob Perissi

Take a look around your veterinary office, what do you see? Is the waiting area calm and welcoming, or does it have a stark white, sterile aesthetic? If your office falls into the latter category and you are looking to make it more inviting, here are a few ideas to get you pointed in the right direction.

One simple change that can affect the overall appeal of the waiting area is changing the wall colors. The effect of color on mood has been widely studied, and many medical facilities now use colors associated with calmness to create a peaceful environment for patients. A similar approach can be taken to create a serene atmosphere for pet owners in veterinary waiting rooms and even exam rooms. Generally, cool colors such as blue, green and gray are considered soothing.

Another way you can improve the atmosphere of a stark veterinary office is to incorporate a theme into the décor, and carry it throughout the office. Compelling visuals in the waiting area will give pet owners an interesting focal point while they wait. For instance, a nature theme may include a wall mural of a forest and a nature inspired color scheme. Or, you could showcase patients and their owners in framed photos adorned with a thank you message or other sentiment from the pet owner. Another veterinary office décor option is to add character by displaying antique veterinary supplies. If you are going with a theme, choose colors, fixtures and accessories that align with the theme. Adhering to a common style throughout the office will help create a cohesive look and feel.

Functionality should be built into your plan for creating an inviting feel in a veterinary office. Ensure adequate space in the waiting area so that pets in different parties can be separated if necessary. Dividing the area into separate spaces if possible is an idea to consider. Also consider the functionality of the materials you use in the waiting area, such as benches or chairs that are conducive to thorough cleaning and sanitation. Hard seating surfaces may be better for a veterinarian office than cushioned seating.

Visiting the veterinarian can be a stressful experience for owners who have sick or injured pets. A calming environment in the waiting area and examination rooms can make for a more pleasant experience for guests. Whether you are simply sprucing up tired décor or undertaking a complete office overhaul, aim to create a peaceful setting that has style as well as functionality.

The Pros of Having Online Printing Quotes

Online printing quotes are significant when you’re looking at having your print job done by online printing companies. In any website, you often find an area where any business can structure their print requirements so they can work within their budget. Indeed, the online printing quotes provide considerable help when businesses want to maintain their cash flow, as well as have the best marketing collaterals without having to deplete their finances.

Printing costs cannot be avoided, as all business owners and marketers know. When you want to promote and be recognized, costs are part and parcel of any marketing campaign, be it flyer printing, custom brochures, or even when printing door hangers. Costs are simply unavoidable.

Therefore, online printing companies have made it easier for businesses to know what they can expect even before their collaterals are printed. Printing quotes are estimates and can be made as guides so you can have a basic idea of the costs involved according to your requirements.

Your quotes can be determined through your specifications. Based on the kind of collaterals you need, the size of paper, the type of stock, the quantity of your order, and the turnaround time – your costs can be established instantly.

Printing quotes however, are not standard. They do vary from one client to the next as each customer does have a different requirement. Hence, there can be marginal variations when it comes to ordering your print collaterals from an online printing company. As they are merely estimates, the quotes may change in price, as well as they may not consider additional expenses that you may incur during the printing process.

The good news though is that when you do decide to have your collaterals printed by these online printing companies, the quotes seldom have minor changes that you’ll be able to confirm. This simply means that what you have in your price quotes is almost the same costs you’ll incur when you actually have your job done. The increase in the final price may come from shipping costs, sales tax, professional fees, computer charges, and other charges that you may have when you custom print your collaterals.

Having online printing companies to provide you with quotes have benefits. Your costs can be obtained easily and instantly, providing you the means to restructure your requirements to fit your budget. Even before you can actually have your print job executed, you can have an idea of what your marketing campaign will entail in terms of your finances.

Online printing estimates are also easy to get because all you have to do is to key in your specifications in the price generator provided in the website. Instant calculation that is within a mouse click.

And once you decide to change a particular detail in your request, you don’t need to do the process all over again. The price quote automatically changes along with your modification.

All in all, online price quotes have benefits. They are particularly advantageous for those who are relatively new to the marketing business. The only thing you have to do is to be clear on what you really need for your business, and the printing quotes will help you find the most appropriate marketing collaterals according to your budget.

Inflatable advertising as the most cost effective ad campaign

We have so many outdoor advertising options viz. banner, hording, etc. But, what could be the most effective one? Certainly, we will prefer something different or more inducing one. Here comes the name ‘inflatable advertising’. Hence, sun-promos and a many other prominent names seem quite adamant to make it accessible for every ad seeker.

Basically inflatable advertising refers air filled commercial signage. Unlike banners and posters, these stuffs can be exhibited into varieties of shapes and size. Hence, such signage becomes livelier. Unconventional substances have always drawn public attention and inflatable advertising also does the same. Especially kids are big fan of such ads. Today, no-one can deny with the fact that advertising is just like oxygen for the business. Each and every form of business requires it either on small or large canvass accordingly the need and budget.

Nowadays, advertising-marketing companies have cut-throat competition among themselves due to the presence of so many brands. Gaining public attention and turning into permanent clients is the greatest one challenge for them. The task becomes tougher under specific budget constraints. Sometimes it seems as if unlimited budget of multinational companies is perfectly adamant to eradicate lower budget ad campaign. So, smaller campaign finds inflatable advertising as the best one option in drawing attention of prospective customers at all the places be it a trade show or retail outlet.

So, advertising sector has prominently recognized significance of inflatable advertising as the most cost-effective marketing strategy to create traffic, generate sales and profit enhancement as well. Today, varieties of balloons are important part of inflatable advertising. Let’s have a glimpse upon some of them.

• Cold air inflatable balloon use to be up to 25 feet tall. It has been considered as the ideal one for parking lots, parks, or other large outdoor spaces.

• Helium inflatable is available in larger range from 7-30 feet long. It can be available in custom made shape and size. It is ideal one to be tethered with the ground or to the roof of your building for additional height.

Advertising Boards can also ne on a stand (legs), they can free stand in shops to advertise any given product, event or anything you wish.

Advertising Boards can also have clips on the back, these can then be hung on the end of shop gondola's, this can be a very big point of interest and can draw the eyes attention using striking images, text and colours.

Advertising Boards can also be wall mounted, they can stand behind counters for example, displaying other products that the customer may wish to purchase that they perhaps forgot.

An advertising board is essentially a board… normally wooden or plastic that advertising can be mounted onto, this tends to be a paper advert that is help in place by sometimes Perspex that covers the advert and attaches to the board.

There are many companies in the world that specialise is printing of these adverts for use with your advertising boards, they are completely customisable and contain any images or text you want, you can incorporate many different images at once, along with company branding also able to be printed.

It was in the 1980's that advertising boards were first introduced, they first appeared in Football Stadiums, they were influenced by on-shirt advertising. If you look today you will notice that advertising boards ere now extremely common in football stadiums, in fact there can be hundreds in one stadium.

Football stadiums have advanced a lot recently and now use electronic advertising boards, these boards display and image that after a set period of time will change to another image (advert), the possibilities are endless and fade in/out effects can also be used.

Advertising in effect is an attempt to persuade the public into the purchase of something or the attendance of something; however some advertising boards can just be about awareness, to get certain people aware of a certain something (subject, fact). Essentially Advertising is a different type of communication.

Advertisements at times can use factual information to along with their persuasive information, the factually information is used to mask the advertising information, making you read it but not seeing it as an attempt to make you do something

If you are looking at advertising yourself and are unsure which avenue to take, advertising boards are an extremely good choice, they can be placed where needed and when needed, they are fully customisable in both shape and size. The advertising itself can be very striking and in your face witch as much attention to detail as required. They can even be designed to match say the design of your shop stands. Advertising Boards can also be colour coded to your business making them one of the most used forms of advertising worldwide.

How Can You Become an Electrician?

Tuesday, July 7, 2009

If you want to become an electrician you have probably done a little research in to what an electrician does. Likely, you found that electricians install electrical service in new construction in commercial and residential environments, electricians update electrical service in these environments, they repair electrical service, they add new services to existing construction, electricians maintain high voltage power plants and distributions, they work on high voltage motors and generators and they work on any equipment that requires high voltage or high tension (high amperage).

Electricians are responsible for making sure we have power when and where we want it and that it is safe. You would not want just anyone working on the electrical service that is near your pool. You would not want just anyone installing a new outlet in your home. The risks of an accident like a fire or shock are far too great for just any do it yourselfer to work on electrical service.

To become an electrician you have to study the theory of electricity, how it works, the physics involved in electricity and how it flows, how electricity is safely carried, how to calculate loads and overcome obstacles associated with an installation and how to troubleshoot and isolate problems. Electricians have to understand the theory, as well as they know how to apply the practical side of the business. Electricians have a unique set of skills in that they need an academic level understanding of electricity and how it works as well as a craftsman's understanding of how to install the service, bend pipe, cut and pull wire and many other mechanical aspects of installing electrical services.

To become an electrician you will also need to attend school and learn the trade from an experienced and hopefully licensed electrician. There are many trade schools that offer courses that lead to a person to become an electrician. You can use the Internet to help find local trade schools that offer training that suite your particular needs and circumstances. Many schools offer financial assistance if you require it. Many of the trade schools will offer courses that are specific to a trade specialty. For electricians that could be areas of specialty like large horsepower motors, high tension electrical distribution, residential installation or any one of a wide variety of other topics.

You will also need to gain practical experience in the field if you want to become an electrician. This part of becoming an electrician requires you to do work as an electrician while under the supervision of an electrician. This part of the training tends to be the most fun. It is highly educational and allows you to hone your skills at the practical application of what you have learned in the classroom as well as applying your problem solving skills. Frequently the answer to a problem is obvious but how you apply the solution is not so clear. You might need to run some wires in a conduit from point A to point B. Sounds pretty simple until you realize that you have to run the conduit around a couple of corners and across an open ceiling and code requires the conduit to be anchored every eight feet. The practical application of being an electrician tends to be the fun part of the job.

Three golden rules of advertising

There are three golden rules you need to follow in order for your business to be as successful as the potential it has. Below is a list of the three golden rules. If you answer no to any of them, you might want to rethink your advertising techniques.

1. Do you test every aspect of your advertising/marketing technique and measure the success?

In order to be a successful marketer, you need to constantly test old techniques and incorporate new ones after they have tested positive. It doesn't matter what the technique is, if it shows itself as a proven tactic, keep doing it, if it does not perform to expectations, drop it and move on to a new technique. Don't let your techniques get stale, always test and retest them.

Try testing at least five new things per month, if one of the five are successful, drop the other four, on the other hand, if four out of five are successful, just drop the one and celebrate your newfound business you created with the other four. Static advertising will eventually wither and die away. Rule one, always test and measure, your advertising is not only an integral part of your business, it's also the first introduction your clients will have to your business. Make it clear, simple and effective.

2. Know what purpose your business serves.

If you don't understand your own business completely, how can you expect anyone else to understand it. Know your business well; if you believe you are in business to make money, you're already on the wrong road. To be an outstanding business, a business that can stand the test of time and economy, you need to be able to give your clients real value for their dollar, have a product or service that makes their life easier, and have customer service as a highest priority.

This is not a vague concept, or a gimmicky statement, it's a way of doing business. It's a commitment to do what you need to do to enhance the lives of your clients, to make their interaction with your company as easy and comfortable as possible; it is a way to interact with your clients in a way that will benefit both you and your client. This concept is the most powerful tool to have in your sales and marketing arsenal. Think about when you have interacted with a company, did you not have a much more positive experience when you felt the person on the other end was not only on your side, but was willing to do what needed to be done in order to make you happy?

3. Does your marketing feature the benefits of your product or service?

Customers are not interested in what you do, they are interested in what you can do for THEM. The rest is of no value to them and does not deserve their attention. If you cannot tell your client how you can benefit them in particular, your advertising, no matter how aggressive it may be, will be for the most part, ineffective.

Know what your business has to offer, either product or service, know how this product or service will fit into the personal or business lives of your clients. Focus all of your brochures, web pages, and any other advertising on the attributes of your company and how they can work to benefit your client. How can you make it easier for them to do their job; how can you make it easier for them in their day to day personal lives. This is what matters to your client, never loose sight of that. Money can be secondary to the benefits they stand to garner from your service or product.
